Culturally there is a huge gap between the people who are using the cloud and the ones who are tasked to manage it. The tug of war is tedious but still important to maintain a balance between speed and efficiency. But as the business grows and cloud deployments get more complicated, the balance is tipped against cost efficiency.
We believe there is a gap in our technical stack, team culture as well as business processes to solve the cloud efficiency challenges. In Farfetch we have built ICON (Infrastructure Cost Optimized Now) to bring cloud cost in the centre of our engineering practices. In this talk I would cover the product features, impact on our cloud cost and the future roadmap of this work.
